Gilbert Brodie Concert | Art Car Parade | Chalk Art

GILBERT, MATHIS FILL HOUSE

Lampasas, Tex. - March 5, 2007 - Nearly 200 people turned out on a beautiful Sunday afternoon to hear tenor Bodie Christopher Gilbert and pianist Eric Mathis perform on March 4 at the Baptist Church in Lampasas. This is the first of a series of concerts the Lampasas Association for the Arts (LAFTA) hopes to present in the coming year.

Much of the audience knew Gilbert from his years as Betty Ann Whitis's student in Lampasas and was excited to have the opportunity to hear him again. During his years as a student at the high school in the city, he was an active choir member under her leadership and a competitive musician. For the March 4 concert, Gilbert and Mathis traveled to Lampasas from Baylor University in Waco, where both study. They presented a varied program of classical, religious, and musical theater selections. Gilbert introduced the pieces with background and information to guide the listener.

Audience members were impressed with Gilbert's expressiveness, a quality he is noted for in performance, as well as the sheer beauty of his voice, and they were equally impressed with Mathis's performance. The pair received a standing ovation at the end of the concert. Compact disks were for sale at the reception and both artists signed copies for eager fans.
