Sidewalk Art Contest Raised $490 for the Hanna Springs Sculpture Garden

The Committee for Art in the Park, a volunteer not-for-profit organization affiliated with Preservation Lampasas, raised $490 with a sidewalk art contest. The money benefits the Hanna Springs Sculpture Garden . The Sculpture Garden will be dedicated during Spring Ho' on Friday, July 8, 2005, at 4 p.m., in Hanna Springs Park, Lampasas. The press and public are welcome to attend.

The Sidewalk Art Contest was held during Bloomin' Fest, Saturday, April 2, 2005, in the Downtown Square , Lampasas. Each participant had a 3-by-3-foot square of sidewalk to draw in with sidewalk chalk or chalk pastels. Twenty-five children and high school and college students competed for three cash prizes of $75.00, $35.00 and $25.00. Pearl Hooks, of Lampasas, won first prize with her beautiful composition of flowers. Zac Dibble and Katie Balke tied for second and split the prize money for second and third places.

The contest was sponsored by John Cole, Judy Hetherly, Ken McDaniel, and Mel Ellis who donated money for senior high school participants in the contest.

The first annual Art in the Park exposition is scheduled for September 18 through October 1, 2005. Three internationally collected sculptors will be featured at Hanna Springs : T.J. Mabrey of Lampasas, David B. Hickman of Dallas, and Carolann Haggard, also of Dallas . The artists will sculpt at the event, which is open to the public and free of charge. The sculptures are expected to be completed in late October and will become the cornerstones of the sculpture garden.
